What is creative wellness?

Creative wellness is an optimal state of creative being—where your mind is energized, focused, and flexible for flow.

Whether you’re in a creative studio, at an office, or in your home, creative wellness helps you train the mind to overcome the distractions, negativity, perfectionism, overthinking, and fixed mindset that may be holding you back from creating the life you want.

Although inspired by the proven principles of Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) and Mindfulness-Based Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (MBACT), our approach to creative wellness is not therapy; it’s mental training.

It’s a science-based practice for overcoming the mental obstacles blocking flow.

Creative wellness is cultivated with three daily practices:

✅ Gratitude journaling to energize the mind by offsetting the brain’s natural tendency to focus on the negative

✅ Mindfulness meditation to train the mind to be more focused, calm, and present without judgment

✅ Awareness training to build mental flexibility by learning how to recognize negative, distorted thoughts—so they can be labeled, let go, or reframed into something more useful for staying in flow

As you may know, there are many books and apps for learning these practices. However, these resources tend to focus on those who are suffering from mental health issues like anxiety and depression. (If that’s you, please consult a mental health professional.) Whereas, creative wellness is about using these practices to thrive in what we are passionate about.

My ultimate goal is to inspire people to optimize their day for experiencing more flow. Not for the sake of making more money or achieving recognition in their work (that’s a bonus), but because it’s how we can consistently experience true joy in our everyday lives.

A little about me

My name is Chris Hewett.

I’ve been a creative producer for over 30 years.

Along the way, I’ve co-produced award-winning video games, gamified wellness apps, a rock club for young musicians, an indie-rock band project, and more recently a creative wellness business. As a “soul producer,” I also co-created two incredible human beings: Jack and Beck.

(Want the résumé version? I’m on LinkedIn).

love creating.

However, creating hasn’t always been an enjoyable experience for me.

I almost burned myself out developing video games. However, it was that experience that led me down the path I’m on today.

A mentor once told me during a difficult time in my video game career: “You can run from fear or toward a vision—both can move you to success, but only one brings joy.” In that moment, I realized every “success” in my life had been driven by fear—fear of failure. From then on, I chose vision.

This revelation transformed how I worked and managed at the video game company, Monolith Productions. Two years later, the game I was an executive producer on became our company’s first blockbuster hit. It was called F.E.A.R.—First Encounter Assault Recon. I overcame my fear while working on the game F.E.A.R.!

After F.E.A.R. was released, I left the game industry and dove headfirst into learning as much as I could about cognitive science and applying it to my personal and professional life.

Today, I consider creativity to be more than creating music, designing a product, or building a business. For me, it’s about creating the life I want. And since life is lived in a 24-hour period, I focus there.

How can I live my best 24 hours today?

Of course every day’s priorities are different, but it almost always starts the same: gratitude journaling, mindful meditation, and reading a few pages out of some of my favorite books. After this morning routine, my mind is primed for getting into a flow. Once I get into a flow, it’s a continuous practice of gently letting go of any negative and distorted thoughts that might kick me out of it.

If you’re interested in finding your optimal state of creative being, I recommend trying GROOVS™ GPT—our free AI-powered creative wellness coach powered by our music mediation app, GROOVS, for overcoming mental obstacles that block the flow and joy in your personal and professional life.

Not into using AI? No problem. You can just use our music meditation app, GROOVS, for amplifying flow by training the mind to be more focused, calm, and present.

I hope you’re inspired to give either a try.

If you do, I’d love to hear about your experience.

appreciate your time and wish you all the best!
